It’s a great time to be a consumer in the space, as we all are on some level. The winning businesses in this group are bringing healthier, sustainable solutions to market and offering more choice and value to customers. It’s a sector that once lagged in innovation, but has made tremendous strides over the last couple years to catch up.
It’s in this environment that I see new entrants, both locally and nationally, garnering significant media attention with business models that are blatantly illegal. While I like the idea of disruption for the benefit of customers, food safety still matters. I’m not going to name names, but thought this an opportune time to tell you more about what we’ve done offline to bring this business to market online.
No Pots & Pans is, in effect, a delivery only restaurant. We operate out of a commercial kitchen in Somerville and are a fully permitted food establishment. I, along with various members of the team, am certified as a ServSafe Food Production Manager. We take food safety seriously.
It would have been faster, cheaper, and much easier to skirt the laws and cut corners here or there, but that’s not who we are. It would have been a mistake to run afoul of regulators and to squander the newly earned trust of our customers, so we’ve done this the right way. It was MUCH harder this way, but we’ve established a legitimate business that you can trust and an infrastructure that will support growth.
